One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest(1975)(Movies To See Before You Die)

Rated as one of top five movies by the maestro  Miloš Forman. Not a spine chilling drama, but an engrossing stuff with excellent storyline, innovative scenes and new shot taking methods which were seen for the first time in this movie at that time. For example, the famous scene of climax, which was also used in its publicity posters.
You keep on crying all the time in the movie. The plot is based on a mental institution subject and is handled perfectly by the director in the world famous Formian Style. Although, personally I rate a few other movies of Forman as his top 5 but still if you are a drama fan and like mid 70s, 90s stuff then oo for this movie at once. Interestingly, many Indian film-makers were highly influenced by this successful classic. Balachandra Menon’s “Ithiri Neram Othiri Karyam” directed by himself also followed the same story pattern and so did Mohan Lal's "Thalavattam".
Directed By Miloš Forman
Starring :Jack Nicholson& Louise Fletcher

Khoya Khoya Chand(2007)(Movies To See Before You Die)(Drama)

A fast paced exciting drama about  the lifestyle of celebrities with aplomb with the 1950s film industry as its backdrop .Circa 1960s Lucknow-based author Zafar Ali Naqvi, who has issues with his father and his four wives, including the 4th one who lusts after him, re-locates to Bombay, starts writing for movies, and falls in love with starlet Nikhat Sheikh . A very finely edited movie with not a single dull moment before the climax. Only at the end it becomes a little slow but then picks up fast with the entire mystery unfolding.
Lucknow locales have been shot beautifully and you will surely enjoy these new locations not usually seen in the recent movies (Arbaz khan's DEBANG2 was also shot in Lucknow, but he could not capture the beauty of the city). In this brilliantly wriiten script, every single character on the screen has some role in the trap laid for the zafair's mother. Fine acting by everyone makes it a strongly recommended movie for a good weekend. A tight racy drama and one of the best in this genre. In short, you are sure going to enjoy this ride called khoya khoya chand.
Directed BySudhir Mishra
Starring :Shiney Ahuja & Other

Gloria Fernandes from U.S.A(1998)&Purab aur Pashchim(1970)

P.G Vishwambaran made “Gloria Fernandes from U.S.A” with Babu Antony in 1998 , which had Babu Antony marrying a foreign lady.

The interesting point here is that the above  movie can't be called as original work. The actual movie behind the  version is
Purab Aur Paschim released in 1970 directed by Manoj Kumar.

My Boss, My Hero(2001) - (Movies To See Before You Die - Gangster)

This is a fine example of class cinema and perfect acting. One of the finest actors in the korean cinema, Jung Joon-ho rightly deserved the OSCAR he didnt got for his brilliant act in this movie It is the first of a trilogy with My Boss, My Teacher in 2006 and The Mafia, The Salesman in 2007.. Jung Woong-in also excels in the role of right hand man who is helping jung in his attempt and you will fall in love with him while watching the movie.
This movie has added one special thing to this everyday life of Jopoks - a mandatory requirement of an educational certificate. The director deserves congratulations for directing a movie which is and will be remembered always for its important theme.

Bollywood also tried to copy this movie with Sanjay duth as an gangster in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. co-starring Gracy singh & Arshad warsi but couldn’t reach even closer to “My Boss My Hero”- A Cinematic Excellence. A smash hit five star rating and strongly recommended movie.

Friday (2012)&Engaeyum Eppothum(2011)

"Friday" starring Fahad Fazil & Ann Augastine has a first half with heavy dose of love and drama. But its second half is clearly inspired from the 2011 released movie "Engeyum Eppothum".
Though there is no auto riksha driver in the Tamil version but rest is all there in the same way.The film tells the life stories of many people who arrive into a town, A tough type hero; girl is seen quite busy attending the phone calls, lovers are in the same city that they dont know each other. And in a Titanic kind of climax.

Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai(2006)(Movies To See Before You Die-Romance)

This is  famous Raj Kanwar's one of the finest movies, . In fact many new  Hindi&Malayalam films are based on this stylish romantic musical. When you finish watching this you have so many things in mind and you just want to salute the master filmmaker for the following points.
1. The whole film is 98% in Switzerland.

2.The brilliance of acting .

3. The story revolves around only a few characters  and it has highly entertaining and unexpected twists and turns in the narration.
If you are a true romance lover, you will surely want this movie in your personal movie collection. A perfect masterpiece from the master of romance and musical.

Darshanam (1973) & its similarities.

This cannot be taken as a straight inspiration, but the Japanece masterpiece Crimson Bat, the Blind Swordswoman” (1969) must have been there in the mind of director PN Menon, while he thought of the theme of Darshanam. And though the movie cannot be rated among his best, it can still be called an interesting watch with an entertaining climax and a surprise twist.

Undoubtedly, “Darshanam” has a different concept but it also has its similarities, especially in the blind angle and the revenge, which makes us remember the Japanese Gem “Crimson Bat, the Blind Swordswoman”. In all, a good sincere attempt by PN Menon, considering its offbeat subject & treatment.

Back To School(1986)-(Must Watch Movies-Comedy)

A new exciting and intense plot which makes you think about pleasure, courage and education.Rodney Dangerfeild gives an something different performance  as a wealthy but uneducated father who goes to college to show solidarity with his discouraged son and learns that he cannot buy an education or happiness. The way he carries himself in the movie is really commendable and the credit for his power packed performance should also be given to the director too.
This out of the box movie is directed by Alan Metter. He chooses a subject, which may not  be the choice of others and does full justice with the unusual subject.Don't look action or chase sequences in the film.On the other hand it has sharp unexpected twists in the script which are bound to take you over.A pure example of real comical and decent cinema for the family viewers.Agreat directorial venture with a memorable performance by a veteran.
Directed by   Alan Metter
Starring         Rodney Dangerfeild&others.

Mission Impossible(1996)-(Must Watch Movies-Spy Movies)

The current hot subject in India-the security agency is the main topic for this revealing movie. In simple words,it is a movie that exist in the instant, and we must exist in the instant to enjoy it.A film which is about an American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization. After seeing this movie, you will feel it as very clever thriller.
The script is based on the television series of the same name. For those who have not seen the original mission impossible,it is a real shame. While the other flicks offer plenty of explosions and cool action sequences, the original remains the best for it's interesting plot twists, some decent acting, and a well developed element of suspense that's lacking in the later pictures.A must watch for all the youngsters.I hope after seeing this movie you will agree that certainly has some pretty interesting occurrences that should be seen for full effect.
Directed By:Brian De Palma
Starring       :Tom Cruice,John Voight,Emmanuelle Beart&Hentry Czerng.

Patch Adams (1998)-(Must Watch Movies-Comedy)

You may not have heard about this powerful movie Since it was  produced by Mike Tavvel and Barry   Kemp and not promoted well . But as it  direcrted by the master film  maker Tom Shadyaa in  his own  unique  style ; you should watch it for its excellence . Through  it revolves  around a medical university and  the  reforms needed  in his it , still  its  not a  boring  medical movie . Its   fast paeed, well  scripted  and  well  acted  film  with a well  closed star cast.
The story is  about  a medical  student  in  the 70s treats patients , illegally, using  humor. It  shows  how  the  patients find  difficulties  in raising their  voices  in the world  of all  doctors.  It  also  a drama  tried  to be  funny. Very fine  performances  by every one  in the cast with  the best  coming  from  Robin Williams   my nice potter as couples  fighting  for different  purposes . more  Shaimans    music is  also just  apt for  the movie.  The   only  drawback  i could find is that  it should  have been  trimmed  a little  comedy  cinema  and movies with  a  messages than  do watch it as  a compulsion.
Directed By  Tom Shadyac
Starring : Robin  William  and Monica Potter.
Music By      Marc Shaiman

DIL APNA AUR PREET PARAYI(1960)-(Must Watch Movies-Musical)

Raaj kumar, known as the finest actors in the world of indian cinema, again scores the maximum in the exciting romance musical.I also admire him for the kind of subject and movies he opts for.DIL APNA AUR PREET PARAYI based on a dedicated surgeon obligated to marry the daughter of a family friend ,but his heart belongs to the nurse who works tirelessly by his side.
A very tight scripted movie which make you sit straight on your couch. Those must have been different times.Well on gets kind easy on the rating, for the sheer respect of the movies times....lack of technology and respect for the crew and cast.Again a must watch raajkumar movie, with a splendid, not to be missed, this experience.
Directed by  Kishore sahu
Starring        Raaj kumar,Kumar,Meena kumari&Nadira.

FIRST BELL(1992)&IN HARIHAR NAGAR(1990)

"First Bell"is a thriller, featuring Jayaram,Anusha and Jagadheesh. The movie revolves around a plot in which two loafers, one beautiful girl next door, and a murder mystery.Utterly hilarious.Though it's not an exact version but has very strong similarities with'IN HARIHAR NAGAR'(1990).Interestingly another malayalam movie'MIMICS PARADE'starring jagadheesh was also a kind of remake of the same film'IN HARIHAR NAGAR'.

AMERICAN BEAUTY(1999)-(Must Watch Movies-Drama)

Sam Mendes' Oscar award winner movie with excellent performances from all the lead actors. It's no strange that Kevin Spacy win award for this movie,as he surely deserved it for his brilliant subtle performance. The film is about an office worker lester burnham, who has a midlife crisis when he becomes infatuated with his teenage daughter's best friend, angela(Mena Suvari).
Annette Bening also deserves applands for her superb act.Chris Cooper&was Bentley have proved themselves numourous times before and no one can question their acting caliber. They once again prove their verstality in this socially relevant drama. In all it's a different kind of soft&simple movie,by the great Sam Mendes which lingers in your mind the whole day after you watch it.The family audience does n't like to see it,but you can enjoy it lonely.
Directed by    Sam Mendes
Starring          Kevin Spacy,Annette Bening,Chris Cooper&Wes Bentley.
Dialogues by   Alan Ball
Music by        Thomas Newman.

EYE OF THE NEEDLE(1981)-(Must Watch Movies-Romance)

"Eye Of The Needle" introduced me to the cinema of Richard Marquand, who is one of the top 10 film-makers in Wales cinema. The  movie is a real treat to watch if you can still go for a b/w movie with only 3-4 main artists.Donald Sutherland in the main lead just gives you an example of how talented he was. It's a pity that the generation now knows him only as a character artist.
A fine movie depicting a ruthless German spy, trying to get out of Britain with vital information about D-day,must spend time with a young woman and her crippled husband. It's a pretty and romantic world war second spy thriller. In a few words it is a real treat for good and sincere cinema lovers.
Directed by  Richard Marquand
starring Donald Sutherland&Kate Nelligan.
